Zafira Design

The first generation Zafira was internally designated as the Zafira A. Co-developed with Porsche,[6] it debuted in concept form at the 1997 Frankfurt Auto Show and entered series production in January 1999, with sales beginning in April of that year.[7]

The second generation Zafira, internally designated Zafira B, debuted in Europe on 12 February 2005, with sales starting on 9 June 2005. It shared the platform and mechanical parts with the Opel Astra H. In February 2007, the Zafira B was launched in Singapore. By March 2007, the model had only been introduced in Europe and Singapore.

Probably the most remarkable fact. Did you know that most of the Vauxhall Zafira has been engineered by Porsche. Yes, you read that correctly! Even though this is not a commonly known fact you could possibly say that this should actually be called a Porsche Zafira. Vauxhall just delivered the design and the platform that the car should be manufactured on (the T-platform of the new Astra). After that the majority was up to Porsche to design to a high standard. Together with Vauxhall, Porsche designed the Vauxhall Flex 7 system that is characteristic of the Zafira.

One of the unique features of this design was that it is possible to pull two extra seats out of the floor in the boot, which turned the MPV in to a 7 seater people carrier. Porsche commitment to this project shows in the fact that that Porsche took the responsibility for the quality control in the first series of the Zafira. The first generation Zafira was presented at the IAA in Frankfurt in 1997 to be produced from fall 1998. The production had to be postponed until 1999 due to the unexpected success of the Vauxhall Astra G (that was introduced in 1997), Vauxhall sold 1.7 million Astra models in Europe.

Aesthetically, the OPC featured a deep front spoiler with a large central engine cooling air-intake. The 18-inch 6-spoke design alloys were specifically designed for the OPC. The aggressive design was enhanced with the accentuated side sills and the powerful-looking rear fitted with trapezoidal tailpipes.
